Assessment

Key points regarding our assessment policy:

  • For Grades 1 to 4, there are no formal examinations. Progress reports are skill-based, derived from continuous observations of classroom performance, subject interest, project work, presentations, and work regularity.
  • From Grade 5 onwards, evaluation includes internal assessment, weekly tests, mid-term, and final examinations.
  • The passing mark in every subject is 40%.
  • A grading system will be used for students in Grades 5 to 8.

Grade 5 to 8

At Anand Niketan, we aim to balance Formative and Summative Assessment. We believe that assessment is for learning, not just of learning. It involves collecting relevant information to inform future decisions, rather than simply testing the quantity of information retained.

Formative Assessment focuses on practice and student involvement. Tools include class observation, quizzes, self/peer assessment, field trips, academic games, and year-long projects.
Summative Assessment is conducted periodically to gauge student learning against certain standards, using tools like mid-term and final assessments.
Both types of assessment are integrated into our pursuit of improved education and include providing feedback to students and parents to facilitate improvement.

Grade 9 to 12

The Council For The Indian School Certificate Examination conducts two examinations, namely, the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE -Class X) and The Indian School Certificate Examination (ISC - Class XII). The subject choices and syllabuses prescribed for these examinations are varied and aimed at nurturing the unique gifts of individual pupils.

The Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE) has been framed and designed as an Examination in general education through the medium of English. Candidates are required to enter for six subjects, English (Compulsory) and be assessed by the school in Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service (Compulsory). At the ICSE level, students have the option to explore opportunities in choice of subjects that encourage them to enhance their performance according to their aptitude and skill.

The Indian School Certificate Examination (ISC) has been framed and designed as an examination through the medium of English, after a two year course of studies beyond the ICSE. All candidates eligible to appear will be required to enter for English (Compulsory) with four or five elective subjects and be assessed by the school in Socially Useful Productive Work and Community Service (Compulsory).

The CISCE offers a range of subjects from which students can select subjects of their choice, across the boundaries of Humanities, Commerce and Science in keeping with their aptitude and ability. The curriculum is framed to ensure students are equipped for tackling all forms of competitive entrance examinations at the National and Global arena. It focuses on soft skills development, which helps in handling new and complex situations successfully in life.
